Six CIM Alumni Join New World Symphony

Six Cleveland Institute of Music alumni won positions as first-year fellows in the New World Symphony beginning this fall. Congratulations to violinists Katherine Kobylarz (MM ’18, Rose), Tara Lynn Ramsey (MM ’13, Updegraff) and Michael Turkell (MM ’17, Kwuon); violists Spencer Ingersoll (BM ’15, Irvine; MM ’17, Vernon) and Xiaohan Sun (BM ’16, Irvine); and percussionist Kevin Ritenauer (MM ’18, Damoulakis). The New World Symphony prepares graduates of music programs for leadership roles in professional orchestras and ensembles. The New World Symphony consists of 87 young musicians who are granted fellowships lasting up to three years. The fellowship program offers in-depth exposure to traditional and modern repertoire, professional development training and personalized experiences working with leading guest conductors, soloists and visiting faculty.  

Alumnus Ian Morin (MM ’18, Stees) and students Julian Maddox (Preucil and Winkler), Conor McAvinue (Irvine) and Brendon Sill (Clouser) were named finalists; they’ll serve as substitutes in the orchestra from time-to-time over the coming year.
