Kremer and collaborators perform on Mixon Masters Series

October 12

Mixon Hall has quickly gained a reputation with audiences and artists alike for its intimate yet open design and magnificent acoustics. One critic ranged the hall as “a magical place that ought to rank as one of the world’s most beautiful buildings for musical performances.

Fans of the Hall and the Mixon Masters Series won’t be disappointed when violinist Gidon Kremer, widely considered one of his generation’s most original and compelling artists, performs on October 12 at 7:30 p.m. Having performed in virtually every major concert hall, his repertoire is unusually extensive, encompassing standard classical as well as new works. He’ll be joined by Kremerata Baltica cellist Giedrė Dirvanauskaite and pianist Andrius Zlabys, a CIM alumnus and winner of the 2003 Cleveland International Piano Competition.

The trio will present Homage to Bach with works by Silvestrov, J.S. Bach, Gubaidulina and Shostakovich.

Tickets for events in the Mixon Masters Series are $28 and $40 and are available online at cim.edu or by calling the CIM Box Office at 216.791.5000, ext. 311.

CIM@Severance - October 19

Special Event October 30

Young musicians in a conservatory share a dream – to one day perform on the same magnificent stages as their idols. Students at CIM get that very opportunity, every year – before they’ve even completed their education.

Thanks to the generous support of CIM donors and corporate sponsors, the CIM Orchestra performs multiple times in Severance hall each season.

Carl Topilow conducts, with violin soloist Emily Nebel, as the orchestra performs Michal Daugherty’s Red Cape Tango (1988-93), Stravinsky’s Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 15 and Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky/Ravel.

Although this event is presented at no charge, tickets are required and are available by calling the Severance Hall Box Office at 216.231.1111. The event will be broadcast live on WCLV 104.89 FM with support from AudioTechnica and is presented in honor of the KeyBank Foundation.

The CIM Orchestra visits Severance Hall a second time in October, as guest performers for The Cleveland Orchestra’s Family Series in “Halloween Spooktacular” on Sunday, October 30 at 2 p.m. This unique ticketed event will feature CIM students, conducted by Carl Topilow, performing popular, contemporary works, such as the themes from Superman, Harry Potter and the Imperial March from The Empire Strikes Back.

Tickets are $22 and $15 for this event. Family Series subscriptions start at $40 for four concerts. Call the Severance Hall Box Office for tickets and information.

Carl Topilow is the director of CIM’s orchestral program. He is also the music director and conductor of the Cleveland Pops Orchestra and the National Repertory Orchestra, a summer festival in Breckenridge, Colorado. Read more about Carl Topilow.
