Alcina’s enchanted island is a lush paradise of endless delights and sensual pleasures. But, deep within, it conceals unimaginable horrors! In George Frideric Handel’s Alcina, a knight attempts to rescue her beloved before he succumbs to the terrible fate of the sorceress’ previous lovers. Based on an episode from Ariosto’s epic poem Orlando Furioso, Alcina contains some of Handel’s most gorgeous music, compelling dramatic situations, and memorable characters.
