Introduction

Rodrigo Lara Alonso is the Director of the Musical Pathway Fellowship at the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) and serves as a guitar faculty member at the Academy and the Joint Music Program. He is also a Teaching Artist and a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity Committee member with Apollo’s Fire.

Lara Alonso holds degrees in music and Latin American studies from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and postgraduate degrees from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and Indiana University Bloomington. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in music education at The University of Southern Mississippi.

As the founder of Sicarú, a distinguished guitar ensemble, Lara Alonso has led the group to sixteen first prizes, including the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America’s Ensemble Competition.
