Introduction
Grammy-winning conductor JoAnn Falletta serves as Music Director of the Buffalo Philharmonic and Virginia Symphony orchestras, Principal Guest Conductor of the Brevard Music Center and Artistic Advisor of the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra.
Falletta is a strong advocate and mentor for young professional and student musicians. Celebrated as one of the first women to lead a major American orchestra, Falletta has regularly visited CIM since 2020 and students and audiences alike regularly look forward to her visits.

Education
Falletta received her undergraduate degree from the Mannes School of Music, and her master’s and doctorate degrees from The Juilliard School.
Teaching Experience
- Led seminars for women conductors for the League of American Orchestras
- Established a unique collaboration between the Buffalo Philharmonic and Mannes College of Music to give up-and-coming conductors professional experience with a leading American orchestra
- Has had great success working with young musicians, guest conducting the orchestras of many top conservatories and summer programs
