The halls at CIM are filled once again as the first week of classes begins. So we wanted to look back at our students, faculty and alumni who kept us posted all summer long as they hit the road for festivals, performances and appearances all over the globe. This year, we had them use #CIMSummer2015 when posting updates from their travels. And post they did! From pictures of rep, to sweeping mountains in Italy (in view from a practice-room!), to ensembles about to go on stage, our hashtag kept track of it all.

Alum appointed acting principal clarinet of The Cleveland Orchestra

Homecoming came early this year for Cleveland Institute of Music alum Benjamin Lulich (BM ’05, Cohen), who has just been appointed acting principal clarinet of The Cleveland Orchestra.

“I know I have big shoes to fill, so I will be working hard to perform at the highest level with the incredible musicians of the orchestra. I am really looking forward to being in Cleveland this coming season,” he says.

Sergei Babayan’s Proms 2015 performance with Daniil Trifonov dubbed “not to miss”

Renowned CIM faculty member, Sergei Babayan will perform alongside former student and distinguished CIM alum, Daniil Trifonov at Proms 2015 in London.

“For sheer energy and brilliant displays of pianistic virtuosity this is surely the Prom to go for,” said The Telegraph in its Proms preview. The pair will tackle all five Sergey Prokofiev piano concertos in one concert –a massive feat they first accomplished in 2012 under the baton of conductor Valery Gergiev at the Mariinsky.
