An active scholar and percussionist, he is the director of the CWRU Percussion Ensemble and a visiting assistant professor at Oberlin College and Conservatory, where he teaches percussion and musicology. Dr. Cox earned a Ph.D. in 2011 from CWRU after completing his dissertation, Collaged Codes: John Cage’s Credo in US. He is currently working on a book project about Cage and his early collaborations with the choreographer Merce Cunningham. From 1996-2005, Dr. Cox worked as the assistant curator of Music and associate director of Performing Arts at the Cleveland Museum of Art, where he was also the co-director of the internationally acclaimed Aki Festival of New Music (three-time winner of the CMA/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming). In the summer, he returns to his hometown of Sitka, Alaska to serve as director of Sitka Fest, a summer-long arts and culture festival.
