CIM is located in University Circle (www.universitycircle.org), a unique, cultural, educational, and scientific center four miles east of downtown Cleveland. Approximately 1,100 people apply for 150 undergraduate and graduate openings, of which 60-70 are freshmen.

Graduation Rate
81 percent of entering freshmen graduate within 5 years.

Retention Rate
More than 95 percent of non-graduating students re-enroll for continuing study.

Faculty
Approximately 90 full and part-time faculty, including 36 current and 5 retired members of The Cleveland Orchestra.

Staff
79 full- and part-time staff members provide administrative and technical support.

Alumni
CIM’s graduates represent all 50 states and 46 foreign countries. There are currently 35 alumni who are members of The Cleveland Orchestra. 80 percent of CIM graduates are employed in the music field throughout the world.

    Two news buildings have been added to the main facility. They provide 36,000 additional square feet that feature:

  • A new entryway and Pogue Lobby
  • Mixon Hall, a 250-seat, state-of-the-art recital hall that also includes the Robert Conrad Audio Control Room for high-tech broadcasting
  • The Fred A. Lennon Education Building which includes new practice rooms, teaching studios, a lounge, Kulas Center for International Music Education (Distance Learning Studio), Patrick Audio Recording Center, and administrative space
  • The Gilliam Family Music Garden, which can be enjoyed year round from inside and outside Mixon Hall
  • Distance Learning
    Distance Learning programs at CIM connect in real time to teachers and students throughout the world through high-speed videoconferencing technology. Videoconferences are complemented with in-class and Web-based activities. Conservatory students participate in performances and master classes in collaboration with the New World Symphony, Royal College of Music in London and many other quality venues. CIM is an affiliate member of the Internet2 high-speed network, and offers many exciting Distance Learning programs for Pre-K through high school. In addition to a full array of programs in music, CIM offers a series of interdisciplinary programs, designed to enliven and reinforce core curriculums that address academic content standards in science, math, language arts, history and geography. More than 500 programs are presented each year reaching 11,000 students.
