Associate Dean

The Cleveland Institute of Music seeks an individual who will serve as the secondary academic officer for the collegiate division, providing leadership, guidance and support to students, faculty and staff. With primary responsibilities overseeing student success and professional development, the successful individual will direct processes and strategies to support student learning, interfacing with students in need of academic support and remediation; the Associate Dean will assume a direct advising role in coordination with the Office of the Registrar, to supplement and develop CIM’s strategies in enrollment, retention, persistence and completion.

The Associate Dean will develop and implement relevant strategies and initiatives for professional and personal development opportunities including career advising, internship program development, summer festival coordination, graduate school audition preparation, oversight of CIM's gig referral service and post-graduation opportunities; will take a primary role in overseeing professional opportunities related to the academic program including, but not limited to Fulbright scholarship advising, coordination of CIM’s international exchange program, and additional programs. The Associate Dean will develop and teach courses in the Conservatory relevant to the development of professional skills.

The Associate Dean will support the work of the Dean’s office as needed, including initiatives related to accreditation, assessment and learning outcomes, faculty development, long- and short-term planning, curricular and program review, academic policy development, and special projects. The Associate Dean will serve as a member of the Title IX committee and other committees as assigned, as well as serve as the Dean's delegate as needed. Direct reports include Registrar, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Director of Community Outreach and Engagement.

This is a 12-month, full time administrative position reporting to the Dean of the Conservatory.

The successful candidate will be a creative, independent thinker capable of developing initiatives and strategies relevant to CIM’s mission and vision. A Master's degree and at least five years of administrative leadership experience in a conservatory, college or university music setting is required, as well as the ability to represent the Institute both internally and externally and to travel when necessary to attend off-site events and conferences. The successful candidate must have superior oral and written communication, analytical and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated supervisory experience, exceptional organizational skills and the ability to gather and analyze relevant and supportive data.
