Director of Accounting
The Cleveland Institute of Music is seeking a full-time Director of Accounting who will oversee our general ledger team. In this role, the Director will be responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records and financial data integrity, monthly close process, completing and reviewing various account analyses and reconciliations, ensuring compliance with all accounting policies and procedures and US GAAP, preparing annual 990 and 990T, semi-annual workers compensation and monthly sales tax returns, assisting with the design and monitoring of our internal control processes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include being responsible for daily accounting operations (General Ledger) and account analysis, assisting with explanations of variances versus budgets, supervising the general ledger team which consists of three full time employees, acting as a point person for the external auditors and preparation of documents for external auditors, continually seeking new methods and procedures to streamline, automate and simplify our daily activities, and other various responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, minimum of three years of accounting experience (public accounting experience a plus), demonstrated supervisory experience, familiarity with accounting software packages such as Great Plains Dynamics and Ellucian PowerCampus. Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, problem solving ability and time management skills.
