David Gilson has served on the faculty at CIM since 1991 and currently teaches choral conducting and eurhythmics. Serving as the associate dean for Student Affairs, he also oversees the Colloquium and Senior Seminar classes. Dean Gilson received a Bachelor of Arts degree in music, studying conducting and vocal performance, from Allegheny College. An alumnus of CIM, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Dalcroze Eurhythmics and a master’s degree in choral conducting.
Mr. Gilson currently serves as the conductor and artistic director of the Western Reserve Chorale and director of music for the United Methodist Church of Chagrin Falls (OH). Previous conducting positions include Park Synagogue, Bethany Covenant Church, Allegheny Chapel Choir and Pathfinder Music Camp. He has served as guest conductor of the Singers’ Club of Cleveland, the University Circle Chorale and Chamber Choir, the CIM Singers, and as chorus master for CIM's Opera Department. He has served as Eurhythmics faculty for the Cleveland School of Ballet, Cleveland School of the Arts, Camp KLAVIER, CIM Summer Sonata program, as well as serving as a clinician at various colleges and schools in Northeast Ohio and Pennsylvania. As a vocalist, Dean Gilson has been heard in concerts, music theater and opera productions, and solo recitals in the Cleveland area as well as in Pennsylvania and Florida.
