Opera Theater Presents Two One-Act Classics

Wednesday, February 26 – Saturday, March 1

The CIM Opera Theater will present a double feature – the masterpiece Dido & Aeneas, and a 20th century romantic gem Riders to the Sea, by England’s premier composers. The production opens Feburary 26 at 7:30pm in Kulas Hall.

Henry Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas recounts the tragic story of two lovers faced with conflicting destinies. The heroic Aeneas falls madly in love with Dido, the Queen of Carthage, but cannot escape the divine command to cross the Mediterranean Sea and lay the foundations of what will become the Roman Empire.

Meanwhile, through the life of matriarch Maurya, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Riders to the Sea portrays the harrowing lives of the mothers, daughters, sisters and wives whose men struggle to eke out a living fighting the fierce waves of the North Atlantic.

This production by the CIM Opera Theater, directed by David Bamberger, with the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra, conducted by Harry Davidson, will be sung in English with projected text.
